Don’t smoke around your pets
Don’t vape around your pets
Don’t use incense around your pets unless you have very good airflow
Don’t use oil diffusers around your pets
There are some pets I wouldn’t even use incense around at all, like birds and reptiles. I know that birds and reptiles have very sensitive lungs and do not tolerate smoke very well at all. It can cause them lung issues or even kill them in really bad situations. It totally depends on the pet. If you are unsure, it’s better to be safe than sorry
Also a lot of rodents or small mammals can’t handle it. I had guinea pigs a few years back and the vet made sure to tell us not to use incense.
#gen question#are candles okay? and how far away does the incense have to be? another room? across the house? outside and comepletley detached?#i don’t want to hurt my babies#psa
Lemme start by saying I’m not a vet so if you want a better idea then please reach out to your pet care professionals.
Candles are generally ok for cats and dogs, but you may want to keep them away from smaller animals (guinea pigs, birds, reptiles).
Also, be careful what scents you’re using as some can cause them to have a bad reaction. As far as incense goes, having the incense by an open window or in a large room with your windows open may be fine so long as your place has good airflow. You can also do it in a closed room with an open window so long as your pet doesn’t have access to that room while it’s burning or directly after it’s burned.
It’s also been suggested to get an air purifier for the rooms you use incense.
